Here is how to install Redis on Ubuntu 20.04 in under 2 minutes:

Step 1 - Update package index

Start by updating the package index on your system:

sudo apt update

apt update downloads the package lists from the repositories and updates them to get information on the newest versions of packages and their dependencies. It will do this for all repositories and PPAs.

Step 2 - Install the Redis package

Now, you can install the redis-server package:

sudo apt install redis-server

Step 3 - Configure Redis

Once the installation is complete, modify the Redis configuration file. Open the configuration file in your favorite text editor:

sudo nano /etc/redis/redis.conf

Next, find the line specifying the supervised directive. The default option is set to no, however, you may want to change it to systems to manage Redis as a service.

/etc/redis/redis.conf

...
supervised systems
...

Step 4 - Restart the Redis

The final step in this journey is to restart Redis to make sure that the changes are in place:

sudo systemctl restart redis.service

That’s it

Redis is now successfully installed on your system.
